Recently, a client greeted me with an apology at the start of their new bike fit position session. " Sorry, I'm new to cycling, I am not a racer and don't have much riding experience. I hope I'm not wasting your time. I just got this bike a month ago and want to make sure I do this right."
"WELCOME TO CYCLING! You ARE my favorite bike fit! You are EXACTLY who I enjoy helping the most! I am glad you are here!" was my response.
Everyone starts as a new cyclist. As a bike position specialist, my job is to help clients establish a position that is unique to their riding experience and goals, comfortable, and optimizes safety in their bike position. There is no "one bike fit position for life" as our bodies are constantly changing thanks to age and the demands placed on it. I love blending my love of human movement as a physical therapist with my knowledge and experience of cycling with every bike position session.
The bike position process is fluid and will continue to change as a rider evolves from novice to whatever cycling goals they decide to pursue. The focus for a new bike fit is establishing a position that promotes enjoyment of cycling through comfort and confidence. While experienced cyclists often are focused on riding performance in bike fit positioning.
